additional info - The oldest known ceramic artifact is a statuette of a woman named the Venus of Dolní Věstonice, which dates back to 28,000 BCE. It was discovered in a small prehistoric settlement near Brno in the Czech Republic. The Venus of Dolní Věstonice is a Gravettian figurine, a type of ceramic object that dates to the Gravettian industry and is between 29,000–25,000 BC. The statuette has been examined by scientists periodically, and in 2004 a tomograph scan found a child's fingerprint on the surface. The child is estimated to be between 7 and 15 years old, and some consider it unlikely that they were the maker of the figurine.
